SHAWN TAY

Presidium > Vice Presidents

Shawn started his competitive dancing career in 1982. After winning several competitions he travelled to England to pursue his training in 1984 together with his wife Gladys Tay. He continued his training and competitive career in different parts of the World, winning 20 prestigious titles before retiring from competition in 1993.

Shawn's long and lasting relationship with the IDSF started in 1985 when he was invited by the former General Secretary of ICAD, Rudi Hubert to a competition in Germany. He shares the vision of the IDSF and decided to set up the Singapore IDSF member body (Singapore DanceSport federation) in 1986. As a professional dancer he became the adviser of the Singapore Danceport Federation since then.

Shawn's active promotion of IDSF activities and membership throughout Asia prompted the IDSF to appoint him as the Advisory Director of the Asian Dancesport Federation when it established in 1996. He works side by side with the ADSF President to further increase membership for the ADSF and plays an active role in establishing major IDSF annual competitions in most countries in Asia.

Shawn received the IDSF President's Award in 2003. As a National coach in dancesport, he received the Singapore Sports Council's Coach Recognition Award for three consecutive years from 2004 to 2006.

As a member of the IDSF membership Commission and an adviser of Asian affairs, Shawn worked closely with the IDSF Presidium for several years before he became an IDSF Presidium member in 2004. Shawn is now serving his second term as IDSF Presidium Member and he was recently elected as the Vice President of the IPDSC in June 2007.
